Silver Banks 2001 – A trip to the humpback whales

From the Samaná Peninsula of the Dominican Republic we start our sailing expedition to the Turks and Caicos Islands and from there to the Silver Banks, the annual meeting place for humpback whales to mate. After a special permit from the Dominican Authorities and the Institute for Marine Biology In Puerto Plata, in addition to wreck diving, we want to study behavior and observe and document the lifestyle of humpback whales. Finally we provided our results to the Marine Biology Institute with evaluations after two weeks of intensive encounters with the whales, including underwater.
