Description

A young patient suffering from a large ranula of the mouth floor is presented. Various possible differential diagnoses are discussed. Possible therapeutic options, ranging from total extirpation and removal of the submandibular gland to less invasive methods, such as marsupialization, are explained in detail. In this case, marsupialization, involving a wide opening of the cyst toward the floor of the mouth, is performed. Possible intraoperative pitfalls are discussed.
