Description

In cases where tooth preservation using endodontic techniques and root tip resection is no longer possible, hemisection serves to maintain support zones for further prosthetic restoration in the case of unilateral root involvement.

This is shown in 2 clinical cases, one in which the distal half of molar 36 is removed for later supply by a small extension bridge and one in which the amputation of the distobuccal root of the molar 16 is performed. The results are monitored after 3 and 6 months.
