Stories and true events
from the continent and the island

The author invites us on a journey with her wonderful stories...

…revealing her very own style of storytelling. The results of this journey into words and stories are found in this book, lovingly compiled and illustrated by her husband, Johannes. As diverse as the stories from Germany and Ireland are, they are united by empathy, a deep sense of humanity, and an eye for keen observation. Just as we leave traces on the journey through life, others leave traces in our lives through their experiences.

Opening this book is like life itself. An adventure made up of 26 letters that takes us into unknown worlds. The author offers us a glimpse into her past, bringing three generations of her family to life and taking us, through wonderful descriptions and scenes, to the green island of Ireland, which has become her second home.

Her stories, compiled in such a book, develop a unique strength and pull. They read as if the narrator is sitting beside us, taking us into these stories, each speaking to us in its own way. For this journey, you don’t even need to pack your bags—just open the book.

Martina Bartsch

Martina Bartsch, born in 1955 in Kassel, has been passionate about language and literature since childhood. Alongside her work as a gynecologist, she began writing short stories and poems, some of which have been published in anthologies.

In 1998, a journey took her to Ireland for the first time. Since then, she has been enchanted by the country, and the Irish people’s deep connection to music, poetry, and their sense of humor have fully captivated her.

She increasingly divides her time between Germany and Ireland.

"We board the train of life without knowing which stations await us."
